Call for Abstracts

Join us in Adelaide for the leading Australasian-Pacific conference on ecological restoration. SERA 2026 will bring together scientists, practitioners, policy makers, Traditional Owners, industry leaders and students to share ideas, showcase innovation, and shape the future of ecological restoration across land, water and culture.

The Society for Ecological Restoration Australasia (SERA) have partnered with the Australasian Coastal Restoration Network (ACRN) and the Cooperative Research Centre for Transformations in Mining Economies (CRC TiME) to deliver an exciting program of aligned events to share knowledge across disciplines, communities, regions, landscapes and seascapes and build capacity. Through connecting the community of restoration professionals, we hope to inspire action to accelerate and scale up restoration.

SERA 2026 is now accepting submissions for Abstracts in the following presentation formats:

Oral Presentation

Limited to 15 minutes, oral presentations are structured conference talks where individuals verbally share their research or ideas with an audience. Oral presentations are often accompanied with a visual slide show such as a PowerPoint and expect questions from eager audience members. 

Speed talk

A speed talk is a very short, time‑limited conference presentation (limited to 5 minutes) designed to give a rapid overview of key research findings or ideas in a concise, focused format.

Printed poster

A printed poster session is a conference format where presenters display their research on a large printed poster and engage in informal, face‑to‑face discussions with attendees who view the poster during a scheduled session.


Symposium

A symposium is a focused conference session where multiple experts present on a shared theme and engage in

moderated discussion. Symposia are limited to 1.5 hours. Usually they include a 15-minute introduction, followed by five 15-minute presentations that form a cohesive theme.


Workshop

Workshops are designed to be participatory, interactive sessions under the guidance of a facilitator. Workshops will run within the conference program and will be limited to 1.5 hours. Please get in touch if you have an idea for a workshop theme that extends beyond this time limit. 

Our conference theme is “Connected Restoration, Inspiring Action” to share knowledge across disciplines, communities, regions, landscapes and seascapes and inspire people. We are accepting submissions on a broad range of themes:


Submissions are sought covering the following themes:

  • Achieving post-mine nature transitions
  • All biomes - aquatic (wetland and waterways) restoration, coastal wetland restoration, forest restoration (rainforests, forests, woodlands), grassland restoration, marine restoration
  • Arts and science communication in restoration
  • Experimental restoration
  • Indigenous and local values (social and cultural values) in restoration
  • Microbial restoration
  • Monitoring and trajectory
  • Restoration economics
  • Restoration innovation
  • Restoration of biodiversity and threatened species
  • Restoration of ecosystem services
  • Restoring climate resilience
  • Restoring ecosystem functions
  • Scaling up restoration
  • Science communication and arts communication in restoration
  • Seed enablement
  • Soil ecosystem restoration
  • Standards and principles for the practice of ecological restoration
  • Other (please note in your submission)

All submissions will be peer-reviewed and scored against the following criteria:

  • Relevance to ecological restoration / fits within the scope
  • Goal and implications clearly explained
  • Brings new or innovative perspective / approach and helps advance learning
  • Topic or issue is addressed in a way that makes it broadly applicable
  • The proposal is complete and well written
